Privacy Policy

Last updated 27 August 2026

This policy explains what personal information I collect through this website, why I collect it, and what you can ask me to do with it. It is written to meet South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

Who is responsible for your information

I am the responsible party for any personal information collected through this site.

Sheena Barry
151 Dickerson Close, Belvidere
Knysna 6571, Western Cape
South Africa

What I collect, and when

I only collect information you choose to give me. There is no account to create and nothing is gathered in the background.

  • The enquiry form. If you complete the form on the contact page, I receive the name, email address, the type of class or work you selected, and the message you wrote.
  • Email. If you write to me directly, I receive your email address and whatever you include in your message.
  • WhatsApp. If you message me through the WhatsApp links on this site, I receive your phone number and your messages. WhatsApp is operated by Meta and your use of it is governed by their own privacy terms, not by this policy.
  • Server logs. My web host records standard technical information for every visit — IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. This is generated automatically by the server, is used only to keep the site running and secure, and I do not use it to try to identify you.

Why I use it

To reply to you, to arrange and run painting classes, to discuss a commission or the sale of a work, and to keep the ordinary records a small business has to keep. That is all. I do not use your information to build a profile of you, and I do not make automated decisions about you.

What I will never do

I do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. I do not share it with anyone for marketing. I will not add you to a mailing list because you enquired about a class — if I ever start a newsletter, you will have to ask to join it.

Cookies and tracking

This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, and no third-party tracker on any page.

One third party is involved in displaying the site: typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests those font files from Google's servers and Google receives your IP address as part of that request. Nothing else about you is sent, and it is not used to identify you here.

Who else can see it

My website hosting provider stores the site and its email, and can technically access what is stored there in the course of running the service. Beyond that, I share personal information only where the law requires it. Information is stored in South Africa and I do not transfer it abroad, other than the incidental processing by WhatsApp and Google Fonts described above.

How long I keep it

Enquiries that do not lead anywhere are kept no longer than two years, and usually much less. Records relating to classes you attended or works you bought are kept for five years, which is what tax and accounting rules require. You can ask me to delete your information sooner and I will, unless I am legally required to keep it.

Your rights

Under POPIA you may ask me to:

  • tell you what personal information I hold about you;
  • correct anything that is wrong or out of date;
  • delete information I no longer have a reason to keep;
  • stop using your information for a particular purpose;
  • object to how I am using it.

Email me at sheenabarry@hotmail.com and I will respond within 30 days. There is no charge for this.

Keeping it safe

This site is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection. I take reasonable steps to protect the information I hold, though no method of transmission over the internet is ever completely secure. If a breach occurs that puts your information at risk, I will notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.

Children

Classes are for adults and this site is not directed at children. I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18 without the consent of a parent or guardian.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, please tell me first — most things are quickly sorted out. You also have the right to complain to the regulator:

Changes to this policy

If I change how information is handled, I will update this page and the date at the top. This version is dated 27 August 2026.
