About

Sheena Barry — painter, teacher, returned home.

I am a professional artist and qualified teacher. My career began in Special Educational Needs and moved through primary schools across Staffordshire and Derbyshire in the United Kingdom. In 2025 I completed my MA in Fine Arts at Coventry University.

From 2019 I began teaching adults and children from my home studio in Rolleston on Dove. I had encountered too many people — children and grown-ups — who carried the quiet belief that they "couldn't do art." The studio was a way to disprove that, one painting at a time.

Now back in South Africa, I have reopened my doors in Belvidere, Knysna. I teach watercolour weekly, acrylic and mixed media once a month, and one-to-one when a painter wants closer attention. I also collaborate with local businesses on team-building sessions through art.

I'm a member of the Knysna Art Society and exhibit alongside local artists in the new art space above Chiffonade at Oaks on Main. I have written and published two books illustrated with my own paintings.

There are no mistakes in art, only marks that add to the whole of the painting.

The Studio

Belvidere, Knysna.

The studio sits in a quiet pocket of Belvidere with a garden that opens out for outdoor classes through summer. Coffee at the Oak Leaf Café Knysna or a long lunch at The Bell are both a one-minute walk — most classes wander between the two.

I teach across the Garden Route: Knysna, Sedgefield, George, Wilderness and Plettenberg Bay.
